- Up & Down same trail
Steep start of the trail but it gets more and more forgiving as you go out past the treeline.
Far views from the trail since there aren’t that many higher mountains around Skorve. It’s always a great feeling when arriving at Høna and Finndalen (little idealistic valley) after working your way up. ‘Hestenutan’ some tops to the north west also look spectacular. When you arrive at the Nordnibba top you can cruise your way (relativity flat) to Gøysen.
The trail is marked with red dots of paint on rocks & trees and a signpost here and there.
First part of the route is a little overgrown with high ferns but easy to follow. Sheeps that graze up in the mountains create small paths everywhere especially after you’ve passed Høna (cabin ‘Skorveseter’) you would need to be extra vigilant of your surroundings so that you don’t take a wrong path.
Nice narrow single-track trail to run. It can an be a little slippery in the forest when it’s wet but generally few loose rocks and roots.
A few short parts with loose rocks/boulders on the upper parts. High growing ferns engulf the path in some parts of the forest, be a bid careful here so you don’t make a misstep.
- You can continue on the trail east from Gøysen to the parking at Haugen (past Listaul & Karlstaul) and run the road (Kivledalsvegen) back to the startpoint. its about the same distance as back and forth but with +-5 km along the gravel road. I would also recommend to run trough ‘Hanakamjuvet’ (small road closed for traffic) rather than the tollroad back. It meets up with the tollroad at ‘Pikhaug’ 800m before the parking spot at starting point.
- Old trail on the part from Skriustøl, Karto and into the main trail just before Høna. It crosses the stream Finndalsåi at a little power plant dam. Trails is hard to follow as the trail markings mostly are faded away and the trail overgrown. Old maps show this trail as marked while the trail i’m writing about in the article is not marked on the map. But right now it’s the other way around. the trail discribe in this article is marked and kept in order while the ‘old’ trail has not.
Starts in dense forest that slowly opens up as you get close the treeline. Finndalen is a really nice open but sheltered valley where you run along a creek & past some remains of a old shed (Finndalsstaul). After Finndalen you’ll run trough typical Norwegian highland scenery.
- Toll road up Bygdardalen, bring kr50,- cash pr. car! ( anno 2018).
- Campings can be found at Seljord, along Seljordsvatn & further towards Bø.
