Imingfjell (Sønstevatn - Mårbu - Solheimstulen)
Smooth trails, moderate terrain & a beautiful mountain landscape. All the ingredients for a long run.

This route give you a sneak peak at the Hardangervidda plateau running close up to the borders of the national park. The trail runs trough a open alpine landscape with lots of rivers & small lakes along the route. There is a toll-road along the north side of Sønstevatn with parkingspaces at the end. There are signs at the road at the parking where the route starts, close to the bridge over the river that runs out into Sønstevatn.

The trails has a moderate incline running up and down trough the large valleys. The climb north out of Smågådalen is probably the steepest on the run. It’s is well marked with Red DNT  ‘T’s’ and has a nice grid & sandy surface which is perfect for running. A large portion, about one-third of the route is also on small ATV tracks making it easy to run lots of kilometers & enjoy a little of the scenery in the meanwhile.

There are several good possibilities to cut down or add some distance on the route. they are marked with the blue lines on the map. Imingfjell Turisheim Mårbu & Solheimstulen are large cabins close to the route that are attended in the main season. Here it is possible to have a overnight stay or buy some beverages (check their opening season in advance).

Follow the DNT trail towards Solheimstulen until you hit a ATV track ( follow signedpost to Imingfjell, the DNT trail to Imingfjell will turn to the east after about 1 km but continue on the ATV track) follow this track all the way to Vikstul & back to the car.
